Climate change threatens and nurtures our development at the same time. Adaptation and mitigation of climate change are challenges that stimulate citizens around the world to create a new society. Innovation is the key, and cities are a center of innovation. But what type of innovation do we want? Solving the problem of housing by building cheaply with 3D printing technology, or by providing support mechanisms that allow the vulnerable population to reconstruct their homes? What role do we want technology to play to shape innovation that allows social change? What initiatives can be created to ensure that innovation allows us to build resilient and sustainable cities?
On this occasion the guest speakers will be Rob Hopkins and Ana Huertas. Hopkins is a PhD in sustainable transition from the University of Plymouth, activist and writer on environmental issues. He is known as the founder of the global sustainable transition movement that began in 2005 to promote community self-sufficiency, reduce the effects of climate change and economic instability.
Huertas is an expert in sustainable agriculture and development. She has conducted research on ecology, climate change, urban and rural social resilience and participatory tools.
The conference will be chaired by Lorenzo Chelleri, director of the International Master's Degree "City Resilience Design and Management", senior researcher at the International University of Catalonia (UIC) and chairing the Urban Resilience Research Network (URnet). He is also part of the UN group for the creation of the International Urban Resilience Institute (URI).
The conference will be in English and there will be simultaneous translation into Catalan.
