The global consumption of resources, and especially the fossil energy resources, has not stopped growing in the last two centuries with an exponential increase in the last decades. The limits of the planet and the ethical imperative to watch over our resources and those of the next generations demand a radical turn in the models of linear production and consumption within the logic of producing pull and the increasing consumption of energy to maintain this system.
The circular economy focuses on business models and technology that maintain the functionality of resources and these are integrated into circular production cycles without generating waste. In this way, imitating natural systems, any material or product left unused becomes the resource of the following system and only materials that allow this circularity are used. These systems work based on renewable energies. What limitations do circular systems currently represent? Can all production cycles of anthropogenic systems be closed?
On this occasion, the guest speaker will be Sladjana Mijatovic, manager in sustainability and circular economy at BPD (Amsterdam). She has a degree in architecture from the University of Amsterdam and a master's degree in Urban Design and Urban Spaces Planning from the Technological University of Delft.
The conference will be chaired by Humberto Llavador, professor of economy of the University Pompeu Fabra.
The conference will be in English and there will be a simultaneous translation service into Catalan.
